Bubble Gum on Janson's History of Art, 2023

The series, Bubble Gum on Janson's History of Art, depicts bubble gum over 287 pages removed from the 1966 edition of Janson's History of Art.  The painted bubble gum masks a part of the composition to hint at a transformation from black & white to color, original to appropriation, high to low, potential to masking, and serious to whimsy.

The pieces are framed 15" x 12", grouped by chapter, and organized in the order that they were presented in the textbook.  They are matted to mask the text from the page while showing the image in its original page location.
